The Cashew Research station, Anakkayam, started in 1963 and situated in the agricultural heartland of Malappuram district was renamed as Agricultural Research Station on 21-06-2011 by Sri. K. P. Mohanan, Honorable Minister for Agriculture, Govt. of Kerala.

Consequent to renaming of the research station as Agricultural Research station, its mandates have been redefined as;

1. Function as a lead station for research in hi-tech horticulture

 2. Production and distribution of planting materials of all major horticultural crops
